How
To Fix MSWord Errors Manually
There
are a number of steps you should take in order to try and improve the
performance of Word, or to prevent errors from occurring.
Clearing Temp Files
Temp
files are a serious burden on your computer’s resource. Removing these temp
files by emptying temp folders not only improves the general performance of your
computer but it may also rid you of some very harmful documents and files along
the way. If you are receiving errors informing you that you don’t have enough
memory to perform certain actions, or if your monitor is freezing, then this
step is an absolute must.
Don’t
be fooled into thinking that you only have one temp directory on your computer
though, because this is far from being the case. However, lets start with the
main one that is probably hiding a lot of unnecessary files that are taking up a
heap of your system resource. Right click the “Start” button and select
“Explore”. Look for your temp folder in either the two following locations:
c:\temp
c:\windows\temp
Generally speaking you are
safe to select all files in this folder (and if you’ve never cleared your temp
folders then there will be a lot of files in here) and hit delete. At first, if
you’re feeling a little apprehensive about doing this then you can go through
and find any file that begins with a “~” (a tilde) and ends with “.tmp”. These
files are of no genuine use and you really can delete every single one of them.
Finding More Temp Files
Now to
clear out other temporary files. Left click the “Start” button and select
“Search”. Type, or copy and paste the following into the search box:
~*.tmp
This
will find all files that begin with a tilde and end with .tmp on your computer.
Highlight all the results that are returned and delete every one of them. There
really is no need to be nervous when doing this; the files you are deleting are
useless.
Clearing Internet Files
Next,
in your Internet browser click on the “Tools” menu and select “Internet
Options”. In the “General” tab, which the Window usually opens on by default,
there are three buttons you should consider clicking; we will look at each of
these individually.
Delete Cookies
Every
time you visit a website your browser stores a small piece of information so
that if you visit that site again it uses this information to determine who you
are and certain actions you performed when you last visited that site. If you
ever choose to save your login details for future visits to a website, these
details are stored as a cookie. If you ever set preferences on a particular site
then that information is also stored in a cookie. However, other sites also keep
cookies on your visits. It is a good idea to clear your cookies at least once in
a while although it will obviously depend on your Internet use and the sites
that you use. Click the button and you will be asked to confirm that you wish to
proceed.
Delete Files
Every
web page and every image and file you view on the Internet is stored in your
Internet cache. The files that you have the option to delete in this section are
those very files. These files are stored so that should you revisit the page or
view the same image again your browser is able to rely on the stored cache
version and load it much quicker. Again, though, it is a very good idea to
delete these files, especially if you are suffering MSWord and other errors.
Click the “Delete Files” button to remove all Internet Cache from your computer.
Clear History
Your
Internet history is exactly that. A history of all sites you have visited.
Depending on your settings you may be storing a lot of information in here.
Click the “Clear History” button to delete your recently viewed pages list.
Why Manual Cleansing
Isn’t Always Enough
The
problem is that while this will clear a lot of information and rid your computer
of unwanted and frankly unnecessary files it barely touches the tip of the
iceberg in terms of what is hiding on your computer. The Windows registry is
difficult to access and there aren’t clear and simple instructions to follow in
order to free up valuable space on your hard drive. Another alternative is to
use a dedicated, specialist registry cleaner. Registry cleaners automatically
rifle through your computer’s hard drive and find any unnecessary files and
delete them. These files come in many different shapes and sizes but all take up
valuable space and may be causing problems of their own.
Using RegCure To Combat
MSWord Errors
RegCure is an inexpensive but very powerful registry cleaner. It performs deep
scans in every corner of the registry. As well as simplifying the above steps it
will check all registry entries for conflicts, missing information, and more.
Once it finds any information like this it will clean or delete the infected or
problematic files. Scanning and deleting can be fully automated so you never
need worry about clearing your temp files or checking your registry entries ever
again.
Summary Of MSWord
Errors And How To Beat Them
Word
is an invaluable tool for home and business use. A lot of the information that
Word requires is stored in the Windows registry, which can quickly become
clogged with unnecessary files and entries. This is one of the most common
causes of MSWord errors. While there are manual methods of checking and
optimizing the registry they are, in some cases, time consuming, and in other
cases not possible to complete manually.
RegCure is a powerful, inexpensive, registry cleaner. By performing deep scans
quickly it can get to the root of any problems you might be encountering and
delete the problematic registry entries and files. Setting RegCure to perform
routine scans and automatically delete the invalid or unwanted files you can
ensure your computer runs at its fastest and most accurate.
