A 9 x 9 board needs to be filled with the numbers 1 to 9 without repeating the same number in any column, row, or region. The board is broken down into 9 regions each consisting of a 3 x 3 square. Surprisingly Sudoku is not a particularly old game only having been introduced in 1979, although its history can be dated back earlier than this to similar although fundamentally different number puzzles.
