What Are X3F Files

X3F files are RAW image files that are created by digital cameras that use X3 sensors. These files are much like other image files except that they offer much greater opportunity for editing and manipulating when compared to more traditional and standard file types. All the data within the file is compressed and contains a preview image file for easy access and, obviously, previewing of the image itself.

Step 1 – Download And Choose X3F File To Repair

In the resulting File Explorer window browse through your system until you find the file you want to repair or recover and then click the Open button. This will navigate you back to the main X3F Repair window where you will hopefully be presented with a preview of the image you are attempting to recover.

Step 2 – The Preview And Save Options

If X3F Repair is able to recover the item in some form or another then the preview will appear. However, if the file has become so corrupt that it can not be recovered then no preview will be shown at all. If a preview does appear then you can choose from either of the following two options:

Save – this saves the repaired X3F file to your desired location. You will be prompted to browse your system in a bid to choose the location where you want to save the file and to give it a name. The resulting file will be clean and uncorrupt as though you had just successfully uploaded it from your memory card.

Save as JPEG – if you do not need the functionality that X3F files offer then you can choose to save the file as a JPEG instead. Again you will be prompted to choose a location and a name for the file before you proceed to save it on your system. Once completed you will be able to treat the JPEG file in the same way you can treat any JPEG file.

The data is compressed and includes an image preview but they can be prone to becoming corrupt, especially if a transfer of the file from media card or camera to PC was halted, interrupted, or unsuccessful for any reason.
